For Those Who Missed Our Workshop – Feedback: A Love Hate Relationship

Why is feedback hard?

At our core we all have a need to learn, improve and grow; and yet we also have a need to be accepted and respected just as you are. Feedback is at the intersection of these powerful and sometimes conflicting desires.  Our relationship with feedback can unlock this paradox.

Why you should change your strategy?

While the art of giving feedback deserves considerable attention, the real power is in the hands of the receiver. Only the receiver can decide to listen, engage, and possibly act on the feedback. Let’s all stop waiting for the perfect feedback ‘giver’ and begin focusing on becoming and exceptional ‘receiver’.

Where to begin?

Step one is to understand your triggers. These are the obstacle both hidden and in plain sight that cause you to decide what the feedback means or dismiss it before truly understanding it.

Step two is to manage your reactions to these triggers so that you are able to reap the benefits of what feedback has to offer.

Receiving feedback is a skill you can develop.

By proactively asking for feedback, you can drive your own learning.
